Custom Seamless Flooring Built & Specified Purposely For A Private Hospital

Elite Crete Systems was recently incorporated in the design and fit out of custom seamless flooring at the Virgin Mary Hospital. The specifiers of this project wanted to have easy navigation throughout the hospital. Elite Crete Systems was able to achieve this by colour coding a navigable floor that directed traffic to each of the hospital’s departments.

Of course having an aesthetically pleasing floor is generally part of the criteria when specifiers are sourcing flooring options, but in the case of a hospital floor, it is priority one to have a hygienic flooring system that is not just easy and inexpensive to maintain, but also durable enough to withstand high traffic and exposure to various harsh chemical agents.

Installing seamless flooring on new concrete is one thing, but installing a seamless floor on an older concrete slab brings about its own unique challenges. The substrate under the dilapidated vinyl at the Virgin Mary Hospital looked like a page out of the MELWAYS or SYDWAYS with hundreds of cracks running north, east, south and west. After spending days repairing the cracked and spalling concrete, THIN-FINISH™ polymer modified concrete overlay was squeegeed on to the repaired concrete floor. After the second coat of THIN-FINISH™ was applied, a hard, hand troweled coat of MICRO- FINISH™ which was very lightly integrally coloured with Portion Control Colorant™ was applied. The next step was to tape out the design and navigation system to the hospital floor, once this was completed the floor diagram was coloured with HYDRA-STONE™ concrete dye. With multiple stores and departments throughout the hospital, multiple colours were used. The final protective top coating of choice was SPARTIC- ALL RM™, a polyaspartic coating. By using a polyaspartic system as the top coat, the Virgin Mary Hospital can easily and inexpensively maintain the floors and rest assured that they will have a low maintenance, yet highly durable and hygienic floor for years to come.

The end result at the Virgin Mary Hospital is a bullet proof seamless floor that was engineered and completed from start to finish all with Elite Crete Systems products.
